The top of your cane should reach your wrist when standing. Your elbow should bend slightly when holding the cane in your hand. Hold the cane with the hand on the opposite side from the one that needs support.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Walking. When walking, your cane and injured leg should be swinging and touching the ground at the same time. To get started, place your cane just in front of your foot and walk with your injured foot. Complete the step with your &#8220;good&#8221; foot.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Verdana\"><span style=\"font-size: 14px;\">Stairs. To climb the stairs, grab the railing (if possible) and lean on your good leg first, with your cane in your hand opposite the injured leg. Then lift the injured leg.
