The elongated simple elastic offers support to the elbow and helps to treat various diseases of the elbow, especially in the early stages. Elbow pain can be caused by a variety of problems. A common cause in adults is tendonitis, an inflammation and injury to the tendons – soft tissues that connect the muscles to the bones. People who play racquetballs are more likely to injure the tendons on the outside of the elbow. This condition is commonly called tennis elbow. People who play golf are more likely to injure the tendons on the inside of the elbow. Other common causes of elbow tendonitis are gardening, baseball, screwdriver use, or excessive use of the wrist and arm.

Young children generally develop a dislocation of the head of the tribune, usually when pulled by a stretched hand. The bones move away from each other momentarily, causing a ligament to slip between them, trapping them when the bones try to fall into place. Children will usually refuse to use the hand, but often shout at any attempt to bend or stretch the elbow. The condition is also called elbow dislocation (a partial displacement).
