Coenzyme Q10 (Co Q10) is a lipid component, similar to vitamin A, with antioxidant properties that is produced in the liver, is distributed throughout the mitochondria of cells and is a key component for the transport of cellular bioenergy throughout the body, hence it is also known as Ubiquinone (Ubiquitous = ubiquitous). The highest levels of Q10 in the body are found in the cells of organs with high energy needs such as e.g. heart, liver. It plays a role in the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is involved in energy transport within cells. Research has shown that it works as an antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative damage.
